Snowboard Half Pipe

in Pipe

The snowboard half pipe is just another element located in the park that gives snowboarders the ability to do some really cool stunts and tricks and allows them to achieve some great air. The half pipe is just that; it is constructed to resemble a half of a pipe that has a hollow center with walls on each side. The snowboarding half pipe came from the skateboarding half pipe and the wave of surfer.

Years ago, it was very difficult for the perfect half pipe to be constructed. Even though many resorts made attempts to construct a half pipe for their customers, the customers gave up on the idea of riding the half pipe and switched to other things such as picnic tables, rails and boxes. Yes, they wanted to ride the pipe and they wanted to achieve some air with their tricks; however, the problem actually was that the pipes were poorly constructed and sometimes too narrow so the boarders couldn't really achieve what they knew in their minds that they wanted to try.

There were a couple of pipes that were built in the past that was perfect for the boarders who knew about them and actually got to ride on them. With the help of a snowcat the basic formation of the pipe was built. To get the perfect pipe usually meant that people had to shape and smooth the inner surface with their hands and when you are talking about something that could initially be 200 feet long and 60 feet wide with four foot tall side walls, that's a massive job; however, something that size could be the starting point for some great fun and some even better tricks and stunts could be developed. Several people in the boarding industry didn't give up on the idea on the pipe. Pipe competitions were being developed across the country.

Today many board parks have incorporated the use of the pipe and it's just a normal part of the landscape. Technology has finally caught up with the vision and the dreams of those ambitious boarders that brought the idea alive. Pipes are more easily constructed and are easier to maintain nowadays.
